Specifications

Element PerformPly™ White Birch Plywood products are made from beautiful Birch hardwood veneer face and back, designed to showcase the stunning figure and allure of its woodgrain. Often stained or finished, these thin sheets are assembled using a stable veneer core.

Rotary Slice:

Rotary Sliced veneer is peeled from a whole log set in a lathe and turned against a special knife, resulting in a cut that roughly parallels the growth rings to produce a bold and often striated grain pattern. Like unwinding a roll of paper, the ribbon of veneer is then cut to usable widths. Rotary Slice creates exceptionally wide sheets with distinctive grain patterns. Rotary cutting is the only method of producing veneer that creates WPF Matching. This is generally the most economical way to create veneer and is the most common cut for Birch.

Whole Piece Face Matching:

WPF Matching is a continuous piece of veneer peeled from a log using the Rotary Slicing method. The result is a single sheet of veneer that reveals a continuous grain pattern throughout the sheet. WPF is most desired for Birch, as it displays the natural grain character of the wood species.

White Birch Colour Grade:

Like Birch lumber, Birch veneer is graded by its colour. White Birch consists of clear sapwood, a brilliant light tone unique to this species. White Birch has minimal colour variation and reduced allowance for natural characteristics like mineral streaks. Birch has a straight grain with a fine, even texture.

Core:

This is a Rubberwood veneer core made from imported Rubberwood hardwood which is sourced from sustainably harvested plantations. The core consists of one or more plies of Rubberwood veneer. Each sheet is laid with the grain direction at a right angle to the adjacent sheets. This allows for excellent screw holding ability.

C Grade Import Plywood:

C Grade has fewer defects, no open knots, is clear and clean and has no streaking. C Grade Plywood allows for some natural characteristics. Because of the inherent individuality of each tree and species, consideration should be given to the overall appearance of the veneer face to determine the appropriate grade for that veneer.

Please consult with your Sales or Specifications Representative, as we can help you determine what grade is acceptable to you for colour, size and amount of pin knots, rough grain or other defects in order to get you the product that works best for your applications.

Sustainability:

TSCA Title VI Certified

Rubberwood hardwood core is derived from sustainably harvested international plantations. This imported core is harvested from mature trees on ethically and environmentally responsible plantations.

We recognize the importance of ethically harvested lumber. As our most valuable resource, sustainably harvested forests increase the rate of carbon sequestration and significantly cut carbon emissions. Wood is a renewable and sustainable material for the built environment, requiring less energy than alternatives like concrete or steel. From harvesting to recycling, lumber is the most carbon-efficient choice for building materials. Wood is of the few elements that can increase sustainability in a building’s life cycle, reduce waste, and create positive biophilic health benefits. Increasingly, architects and designers are calling for a return to wood as the prominent basic building material.
