Where AI Meets Manufacturing: Uniboard® Val-d'Or Facility
Mar 10, 2026
Historically, challenges in millwork and cabinet manufacturing include inconsistent particleboard quality, which may result in equipment downtime and unpredictable machining results. Material variability creates operational issues throughout manufacturing.
Today, Uniboard® has modernized its facilities to create precise automation and reduce inconsistencies. Uniboard®’s Val-d’Or facility received an investment of over $350 million, resulting in a fully automated particle board production line supported by artificial intelligence.

How does AI impact Operations?
The AI is used as a precise monitoring tool of key manufacturing factors, including including resin distribution, density and temperature, which enables tighter control over panel quality and more predictable machining results.
The expanded manufacturing abilities at Val-d’Or allow for the production of ultra-thin particleboard, Uniboard®’s first for the North American market.
This efficient factory has increased annual capacity from 170 million square feet to 272 million square feet—making Uniboard® the largest particleboard producer in Canada and the Northeastern and Midwestern United States.

Upper Canada Forest Products works directly with Uniboard® to supply particleboard to millworkers and manufacturers. With this upgrade, we can proudly offer dependable material reliability and consistent supply.
