Our Community
CHARITABLE SUPPORT
We are grateful to connect with and support our local communities, as well as national and international initiatives in alignment with our values.
In additional to local fundraisers and team initiatives, we proudly support:
- The Native Women's Association of Canada
- The Canadian Red Cross
- One Tree Planted
- The Spitz Fellows Program for Indigenous Women at the University of British Columbia Sauder School of Business
- Habitat for Humanity
SPITZ FELLOWS PROGRAM
The Spitz Fellows Program was co-created by the Spitz famliy with the help of the UBC Sauder School of Business, the Ch’nook Initiative, and input from both Indigenous and academic communities.
The Spitz Fellows Program is a unique opportunity for Indigenous women pursuing Bachelor of Commerce at the UBC Sauder School of Business. The vision of the Spitz Fellows Program is to foster the conditions for each Fellow to succeed in her educational goals and beyond by eliminating financial barriers to success.
The cornerstone of the Spitz Fellows Program is the Spitz Family Award for Indigenous Women, an award of at least $10,000 per academic year, which may be renewed until the Fellow graduates from the UBC BCom program.
Spitz Fellows are also eligible for additional funding to cover student expenses (this can include housing, food, childcare, tutoring, discretionary travel and experiential opportunities) as well as guaranteed acceptance to the Ch'nook Scholars program in two of the four years of their degree.
VOLUNTEER DAYS
Every employee at Upper Canada is given one paid day to contribute as a volunteer to the cause of their choice.
Over the years these volunteer days have combined to create incredible and lasting impact in the communities where we live and work.
ONE-TREE PLANTED
In 2021, we planted over 60,000 trees. When we plant, we do so in honor of our customers, our employees, and our commitment to the planet. Working with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation, trees were planted across North America through various projects, including:
- British Columbia Old Growth Management Areas
- Ontario Larose Forest Tree Planting
- Seeding projects in Alberta
As an environmental charity, One Tree Planted is devoted to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity and help reforestation efforts around the world - all by planting trees!
