Details
Ultralight Low Density Fiberboard is a lightweight and reliable substrate solution. It is often used in lightweight furniture, embossing, trim moulding, ceiling and wall fixtures, and exhibit displays. Though possessing a low density, Ultralight LDF is impressively stable, allowing it to hold ornate shapes for precise and elegant craftsmanship that elevates interior designs. Its smooth surface takes paint and overlay materials well, making it a very workable core solution.

Benefits of Ultralight Low Density Fiberboard Panels:
- Lightweight and stable
- Very easy to cut, shape, and machine
- Super smooth surface allows for easy painting and low-pressure laminating
- Great choice for lightweight furniture, moulding, embossing, and decorative displays
Specifications
Fabrication
Fiberboard panels are created using fine wood particles reduced to fibers through steam, then combined with a resin and bonded together under heat and pressure. The texture is smooth and close-grained, creating a smoother surface than Particle Board cores. This uniform texture creates homogenous panels that are ideal for paint, veneers, or decorative laminates.
Workability
Fiberboard is incredibly stable because of its unique close-binding fabrication. The surface is flat and smooth without knots, allowing tools to easily cut through and work the panel. Precise machining and finishing are easily performed.
Standards
The American National Standard Institute (ANSI) created a standard for Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). It is the North American industry’s voluntary standard that classifies MDF by physical and mechanical properties and identifies product grades. Specifications identified in the Standard include physical and mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, and formaldehyde emission limits. Also, various overlays and surface treatments have been shown to reduce product emissions significantly.
Sustainability
Regulations by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) establish formaldehyde emissions limits for MDF. To meet the needs of the market, many MDF manufacturers have voluntarily developed no-added formaldehyde (NAF) and ultra-low emitting formaldehyde (ULEF) products.
Applications
