ABS is a thermoplastic material. This impact resistant, tough material has many economic and processing advantages. It can be recycled or incinerated. Unlike PVC, ABS may be incinerated with general waste and is exceptionally lightweight. It has properties similar to PVC, but is inherently more weather resistant, so no stabilizing agents need to be added.

REHAU also offers ABS LaserEdge™ Edgebanding. REHAU LaserEdgeTM is an edgeband with a pre-applied functional layer that replaces the traditional glue used to apply edgeband, allowing for a seamless joint and a higher quality seal. This product allows for a far cleaner operation. No adhesives prevent pre-heating and burning and save on labour costs.

Painting Edgebands:

REHAU PVC may be painted. Special PUR-based paints such as DD paint should be used. The choice of paint systems should always be agreed with the manufacturers. Suitability should also be tested prior to mass production. The following steps may be observed: – Pre-treatment with a DD thinner – Pre-priming of PP edgeband – Single- or double-spray painting in the required colour – Intermediate drying for 45 minutes at 68°F (20°C) – Final drying overnight at 68°F (20°C).
